Vancouver Canucks 2026-27 season preview for Canadian bettors
It hasn’t been easy being a Vancouver Canucks fan in recent years, and last season was no exception. Not only did the team come dead last in the league standings, but they traded away their captain and fan favourite, Quinn Hughes.
The Canucks enter the 2026-2027 season in a position similar to last year: a rebuilding team with little to no hope for making the playoffs and contending for the Stanley Cup. But that doesn’t mean other betting markets like player props and awards futures aren’t interesting. Here is how Canadian sportsbooks are viewing the Canucks ahead of the 2026-2027 NHL season.
2025-26 Vancouver Canucks Season Recap
Even in the midst of a complete rebuild, last season was a disappointing one for the Canucks. The team traded captain Quinn Hughes to the Minnesota Wild midseason, confirming that nearly everyone on the roster was available at the right price. That price for Hughes was Zeev Buium, Liam Ohgren, Marco Rossi, and a first-round draft pick.
The Canucks finished the year with a 25-49-8 record, recording just 58 points and coming last overall in the NHL. But the disappointment did not stop there for Canucks Nation. Despite having the highest odds for the first overall pick, the Canucks slid to third place in the Draft Lottery.
What Is Different for the Canucks This Season?
The new Canucks leadership team ripped off the band-aid this offseason and got the rebuild going as fast as possible. The Canucks brought in Ryan Johnson as the team’s new General Manager, with a heavy presence from the Sedin Twins in the front office. Manny Malhotra was brought in as the new head coach, replacing Adam Foote after just one season.
Vancouver extended Buium with an eight-year, $75 million contract starting in the 2027-2028 season. They also added some key veterans, including Brendan Gallagher, Luke Schenn, and Jamie Oleksiak.
Following the trade of Hughes, the Canucks have not named a new team captain. Some options include Elias Pettersson, Filip Hronek, or Tyler Myers.
Goaltending is another major betting variable. Thatcher Demko remains an elite NHL goaltender, but has never been able to stay healthy. With Kevin Lankinen still in the mix and signed to a fairly substantial contract, the Canucks may be splitting the workload this year in an effort to keep Demko healthy.
Vancouver Canucks 2026-27 Betting Outlook
Canadian bettors who are looking to bet on Canucks futures this year may be disappointed. They are certainly priced as a long shot, but unfortunately there is very little chance the Canucks will compete for the Pacific Division, the Western Conference, or the Stanley Cup.
Instead, bettors can look at markets like player props or player awards. Another popular market is the regular-season win totals. Even if you don’t think the Canucks will win a lot of games, you can still bet over or under the posted total at online sports betting sites.
