The PGA Tour heads to Dublin, Ohio this week to test 72 of the world’s best players at the Memorial Tournament. Hosted by the Golden Bear himself, Jack Nicklaus, it’s one of the most prestigious non-Majors on the schedule. The $20,000,000 purse is nothing to sneeze at either.

Key betting stats and players to watch

One of the longest courses on Tour (Par 72, 7569 Yards), Muirfield Village requires an all-around game, but especially rewards excellent approach play and hitting greens because it’s consistently one of the hardest places to scramble on tour. From a sports betting perspective, that means understanding the key stats to look for is vital.

Keeping all that in mind, I’ve put together a short list of players who rank in in the Top Quartile (Top 40) on the PGA Tour in three key metrics this season: Strokes Gained: Approach (SG: APP), Greens In Regulation % (GIR), and Strokes Gained: Around The Green (SG: ATG).

  • Scottie Scheffler (15th in SG:APP, 1st in GIR, 4th in SG: ATG)
  • Matt Fitzpatrick (4th in SG: APP, 7th in GIR, 8th in SG: ATG)
  • Cameron Young (20th in SG: APP, 25th in GIR, 20th in SG: ATG)
  • Ludvig Aberg (8th in SG: APP, 16th in GIR, 21st in SG: ATG)
  • Si Woo Kim (7th in SG: APP, 18th in GIR, 29th in SG: ATG)

To no one’s surprise this short list looks an awful lot like the top of the odds board for the Memorial, with all five golfers who meet the key criteria coming in at +2000 or shorter as of this writing.

Others with a chance

While the odds imply the winner is likely to come from one of the “Big Guns” listed above, there are plenty of names in the field who have demonstrated elite skills (Top-20 ranking this season) in at least two of the three categories highlighted above:

  • Collin Morikawa: (1st in SG: APP, 15th in GIR, 45th in SG: ATG)
  • Adam Scott: (2nd in SG: APP, 11th in GIR, 86th in SG: ATG)
  • Kurt Kityama (5th in SG: APP, 4th in GIR, 120th in SG: ATG)
  • Daniel Berger (10th in SG: APP, 19th in GIR, 138th in SG: ATG)
  • Hideki Matsuyama (14th in SG: APP, 82nd in GIR, 19th in SG: ATG)
  • Alex Smalley (17th in SG: APP, 6th in GIR, 56th in SG: ATG)
  • Justin Rose (18th in SG: APP, 12th in GIR, 105th in SG: ATG)

Aside from Matsuyama the clear issue with the second list is these golfers’ struggles around the green. While players will inevitably have to do a fair deal of scrambling at Muirfield Village, a “spike” week could absolutely allow a player with elite SG: APP and GIR to compete with the top of the board. To do so, a hot putter will be absolutely essential to bail them out of missed greens in regulation.

2026 Memorial Tournament prediction

The bad news for the field is there is just one golfer who ranks Top-20 in all of the metrics I’ve highlighted. He is, of course, World No. 1 Scheffler.

Despite just a single win on the year to date, Scottie has clearly rounded into form since Augusta, finishing no worse than 3rd in five of his last six starts (with the lone exception being T14 at the PGA Championship). He’s rightfully the standout favourite this week. All signs point toward a third straight win at Muirfield Village and the $4,000,000 first-place cheque.

But a Scottie victory doesn’t necessarily mean the end of your wager. For those keen on some insurance against the world’s best player, ToonieBet is offering a “Winner w/o Scottie Scheffler” market, that pays out both if your golfer wins Outright or comes second to Scheffler.
