For Canadian football fans and bettors, stadium size can also be an important factor to consider when evaluating a team\u2019s home-field advantage. The bigger the stadium, the louder the fans can be, and it also allows for more visiting fans. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here is a look at all nine CFL stadiums, their capacities, and a closer look at some of the more historic stadiums in the league. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

CFL Stadium Capacities: What Are the Biggest CFL Stadiums?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

For the 2026-2027 CFL season, nine teams play their home games in cities across Canada. The biggest CFL stadium is Commonwealth Stadium, home of the Edmonton Elks, with a listed capacity of 56,302.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Commonwealth Stadium has the largest CFL stadium capacity, although actual attendance can vary depending on the game and how much of a stadium is opened for spectators. The venue has hosted some of the largest single crowds in CFL history, including a regular-season record crowd of 62,517 in 2009 against the Saskatchewan Roughriders. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

BC Place in Vancouver is the second-largest CFL stadium and provides the BC Lions with an enormous home venue. Its retractable roof also makes it one of the league’s most distinctive stadiums, although given the frequency of rain in Vancouver, that roof mostly stays closed during the fall. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ottawa CFL Stadium and Montreal CFL Stadium<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Surprisingly, two of the smallest CFL stadiums in the league belong to Ottawa and Montreal. The Ottawa CFL stadium is called TD Place Stadium and is located at Lansdowne Park. It has a listed capacity of 25,000 and is home to the Ottawa Redblacks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Montreal Alouettes have the smallest home stadium in the CFL by capacity, with room for just 20,025 fans. The Montreal CFL Stadium is still known for its strong home atmosphere and boisterous crowds, giving the Alouettes a strong home-field advantage. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Is There a Halifax CFL Stadium?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

There is currently no Halifax CFL stadium because there is no CFL franchise in Halifax, Nova Scotia. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The city does have the Wanderers Grounds, which is home to the Canadian Premier League club: the HFX Wanderers FC. The venue was expanded to 7,244 seats in 2025, so it is still much too small to house a CFL franchise. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Halifax has previously been discussed as a potential CFL expansion market, but thus far, there has been no decision to add a tenth team to the Maritimes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
