{"id":1810,"date":"2026-07-09T07:57:18","date_gmt":"2026-07-09T13:57:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.tooniebet.ca\/ca\/?p=1810"},"modified":"2026-07-09T07:57:20","modified_gmt":"2026-07-09T13:57:20","slug":"ufc-329-mcgregor-holloway-odds-prediction","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.tooniebet.ca\/ca\/sports-betting-and-news\/ufc-329-mcgregor-holloway-odds-prediction\/","title":{"rendered":"Is UFC 329 the end for Conor McGregor?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Almost exactly five years to the day since\u00a0<strong>Conor McGregor<\/strong>\u00a0famously broke his tibia in the closing seconds of Round 1 in his trilogy fight with\u00a0Dustin Poirier, the biggest star in MMA history will make his long awaited return Saturday night at <strong>UFC 329<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">McGregor was the defining star of the UFC\u2019s PPV era, headlining&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbesmiddleeast.com\/lifestyle\/sports\/the-top-10-biggest-ufc-pay-per-views-ever-and-why-conor-mcgregor-defined-the-ppv-era\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">eight of the company\u2019s 10 biggest events<\/a>&nbsp;during that time frame. He famously withdrew from the UFC 303 main event two years after breaking his toe weeks before his scheduled bout against&nbsp;<strong>Michael Chandler<\/strong>. \u201cIron Mike\u201d has not fared well since, with three-straight lopsided losses to&nbsp;<strong>Charles Oliveira<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Paddy Pimblett<\/strong>, and&nbsp;<strong>Mauricio Ruffy<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While many believe Chandler still deserved the long awaited matchup, the UFC has gone in a drastically different direction, opting to have McGregor take on old rival Max \u201cBlessed\u201d Holloway. The former Featherweight and BMF Champion is one of the UFC\u2019s most exciting stars. Plus, he\u2019s famous for his precision power shots across all weight classes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Holloway only recently moved up to lightweight full time, and is now going to be adding an additional 15 lbs. While he\u2019s no doubt used to fighting at this weight, he certainly isn\u2019t used to an opponent as big as McGregor.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Nobody is expecting McGregor to out-point Holloway across a gruelling 25 minutes, but \u201cThe Notorious\u201d is as dangerous as any in the early stages. Eight of McGregor\u2019s 10 UFC wins have come via KO\/TKO in the first two rounds (his decision win over Holloway being a glaring exception).\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why Holloway will win<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>One fighter is 37 and hasn\u2019t fought in more than five years. The other is 34 and has eight fights in those five years, all of them five-round Title Fights\/Main Events. How would you price the fight?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>His recent lightweight wins over Gaethje and Poirier are proof that he\u2019s just as dangerous at 155 as he was at 145, and McGregor (despite the new weight class) is a true lightweight<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>There\u2019s almost no doubt he\u2019ll have the speed advantage. If he can wear McGregor out early, it should erase any power disparity between the two.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>He has some of the best cardio in the UFC. Any fight that extends past the third round will be his to lose (that is, if he doesn\u2019t find a knockout even sooner).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">McGregor vs. Holloway prediction<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is as much a spectacle as it is a fight, and I believe in the early stages we may catch a glimpse of the old McGregor: hard hitting and brimming with confidence; the crowd eating out of his hand. But the disparity in activity over the past half decade is too hard to ignore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Holloway isn\u2019t just a former champion, he\u2019s one of the best strikers in UFC history. McGregor can absolutely make the same claim, but when you combine the five-year layoff with his advanced age there are simply too many strikes against him to predict a victory. As McGregor\u2019s adrenaline wears off and he begins to slow down, expect Holloway to go to work, ultimately finding a flurry with too much damage for the referee to ignore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>MMA Xpert prediction<\/strong>: Holloway by KO\/TKO\/DQ in Round 2<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The final word<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While the majority of viewers will be tuning in to see McGregor\u2019s return, don\u2019t be fooled into thinking this is a one-fight show. With stars like&nbsp;<strong>Benoit Saint Denis<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Paddy Pimblett<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Cory Sandhagen<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Brandon Royval<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Robert Whittaker<\/strong>&nbsp;and the debut of top-notch heavyweight prospect&nbsp;<strong>Gable Stevenson<\/strong>, this card has the makings to be of one of the best of the year, and should be fireworks from start to finish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Will we get a vintage performance from McGregor, or is this simply a short footnote to the end of his storied MMA career? The only way to find out is to tune in on Saturday night.
